Discover the Power of Parks


The Discover the Power of Parks program served over 30,000 participants this summer at parks throughout the state. Interpretive programs focused on connecting participants with nature and building appreciation for New Hampshire's unmatched natural heritage. Programs included guided hikes, interpretive tours, and imaginative environmental workshops for children and families. Programs were held at the following parks, with a sample program listing shown for each location.

  • Franconia Notch State Park
    Animals in the Notch. Which is Franconia Notch's biggest animal? Which animal is the best builder? Which one sleeps the most? Bring the little ones for a short hike, story, and crafts, and learn about the animals that call the Notch "home."
  • Greenfield State Park
    Black Bears in our Midst. Join us and discover how a black bear spends its time throughout the year. From 2lbs to over several hundred, black bears go through many changes!
  • Monadnock State Park
    Join us on the summit for a fun and informative presentation. It could be local history to plants and animals at Monadnock - come find out!
  • Pawtuckaway State Park
    Sensory Night Hike. Lights out! Join us as we explore the surprises the night has in store for us and our senses. Disappearing heads, hazy colors, and flashlight games´┐Ż Embrace the dark -- don't be afraid!
  • White Lake State Park
    Fishing and Aquatic Wildlife Observation. Observe fish, amphibians and aquatic insects in their natural environment. Learn basic casts and fishing safety, and maybe reel one in for dinner!

Programs are offered free to guests with paid park admission fee. No pre-registration is required.
