Activities and Amenities

Hannah Duston Memorial was erected in 1874 and is the first publically-funded statue in New Hampshire. Located on a small island at the confluence of the Contoocook and Merrimack Rivers, the statue commemorates the escape of Hannah Duston, who was captured in 1697 in Haverhill, Massachusetts during the French and Indian War. A short walk from the parking area brings visitors to a pretty picnic spot on the shore of the river.

Operating Schedule

This park is always open for recreation. During the off-season the park is typically not staffed and comfort stations are not available.

The off-season poses unique risks inherent when participating in outdoor recreational activities. Please be aware that many State Park areas and trails are not staffed during the off-season, and day-use fees are not collected. Recreationists should possess the necessary knowledge, skill, and equipment to ensure their own safety. Users assume all risk while recreating in State Park lands.
