SUGAR RIVER RECREATIONAL RAIL TRAIL

This 9 mile trail begins at the Newport Recreation Department on Belknap Ave in Newport and ends at Washington Street in Claremont.  The trail boasts two historic covered bridges and meanders along the Sugar River.

Parking Areas

Claremont: OHRV trailhead on south side of Rt 103. 398-394 Washington St, Claremont (43.365535, -72.302509). Google maps has “Sugar River Trail, ORV Trailhead” on the map for this parking lot.

Newport: Green Crow parking at 601-613 John Stark highway off Rt. 11/103. Sign with the “green crow” marks where to turn. Park alongside of highway as you go down under the bridge. Not much parking here, could not have a trailer to load/unload. (43.363045, -72.225993)

Newport: Limited parking on side of road on Oak St, Newport. (43.386010, -72.208441). Not enough room for trailers.

Newport: Newport Trail head is next to Newport Recreation Department at 65 Belknap Ave, Newport. Limited parking on side of building. Go behind building to access dirt lot near gate (43.367012, -72.179297). There is a propane truck fill up station next to lot that has to be shared.
