Paving is complete. Interior finishes continue. Final site work, loaming and seeding is ongoing. What’s next? Epoxy floors will be installed and then punch lists and inspections will take place. As the bathhouses are completed and certificates of occupancy are received, we will be opening selected campsites for reservations.

The bathhouses are really coming together now. Rough MEP (mechanical-electrical-plumbing) is done for bathhouses 5, 7, 8 & 9 and interior finishes are being installed. The campground water system is being charged and soon the new pump station will be tested and water sent to the buildings. Final grading, loam and seeding continues. The dump station is almost complete. Paving will be occurring in the next two weeks.

The lake ice is almost gone, peepers can be heard and the snow has melted off the park road – is it really spring? The park is simultaneously preparing for spring/summer recreation and the park is still an active construction site. The park road remains closed to vehicles… just because you saw a car/truck go around the barricade, don’t assume it’s ok to follow, on any given day there are many trades people working on site using the road.

The contractor and the construction team are in constant contact reviewing work and schedules. I wish I could say that reservations will be opened for Horse Island and Big Island soon, but alas I think we won’t have a clear picture for another two weeks. There has been lots of progress since our last update including pouring the foundation for bathhouse #6, installation of exterior trim, work on interior finishes, continued progress on plumbing and electrical work and final grading has begun around the bathhouses.

The bright and sunny days this week has made a dent in the snow pack from the President’s Day weekend storm. The carpenters, plumbers and electricians have all been busy working on interior finishes and on nice days working on the exterior of the buildings. Due to a plan coordination issue the septic system permit for Bathhouse 5 needed to be revised. The permit revision is expected to be submitted to DES on 3/5 and reviewed by the Town of Nottingham on 3/11. Work on Bathhouse 6 was paused for the winter and we plan to pour the foundation next week, weather permitting, and begin construction of the building soon after.

It’s been awhile since our last update and winter conditions are a daily challenge for the contractor. The five bathhouses are in various stages of construction and site work is complete at the dump station. Plumbing rough in is mostly complete for buildings 7, 8 and 9. Siding and doors are being installed and interior finishes are starting. It was a race to install the foundations and under slab plumbing once the blasting was complete at buildings 5 and 6 before the cold weather set in.

Bathhouses are in various stages of framing and it is nice to see the buildings on the landscape. Septic systems are being installed. To no one’s surprise, ledge has been encountered and will need to be blasted to get the depth needed for septic tanks. Blasting is expected to begin on Monday. A series of horn blasts will sound prior to the blast with a single horn blast sounded when the blast is complete.

The 2024 camping season wraps up this weekend at the park. The park road remains open to the public until mid-December or until plowing begins. Under-slab plumbing has been installed and floor slabs have been poured. Lumber for framing and roof trusses have been delivered. The framing crew will began work on bathhouse #5 this week. Ledge removal will continue over the next two weeks.

The excavation company has been kept busy removing boulders from building foundation sites and have encountered ledge in places. The contractor will need to blast the ledge to get the elevation low enough to install the foundations and the septic tanks. Foundations for the new bathhouses are being installed and under slab plumbing has begun to be roughed in.

The contractors have been busy the last couple of weeks. All bathroom buildings have been demolished and the debris moved off-site. Trees and stumps  have been removed at the RV dump station site. In the next two weeks foundations will be poured for the new buildings and excavation for the septic systems will be happening.
