NH State Parks and 1DegreeOutside Launch Advanced Rip-Current Hazard Forecasting at Hampton Beach State Park

07/30/2025

Hampton, NH (July 22, 2025) — The New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation, part of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, has announced a new partnership with New England-based weather firm 1DegreeOutside to deliver more advanced rip current forecasting for Hampton Beach State Park. The collaboration represents a significant leap forward in public safety forecasting and visitor experience for New Hampshire's Seacoast.

Hampton Beach State Park Beach Patrol is now receiving location-specific rip-current intelligence, providing up to five-day lead time and beach-zone detail previously not available to NH State Parks. These insights translate science into clear, actionable alerts for lifeguards and beachgoers, to help Beach Patrol teams monitor conditions proactively to improve response and communication.

“This is innovation in action,” said Greg Keeler, marketing and communication director for NH State Parks. “We’re excited to partner with a homegrown New England company on a solution that directly supports our mission of stewardship and safety—with the potential to help protect lives at one of our most visited and iconic coastal parks.”

1DegreeOutside, founded by longtime New England broadcast meteorologists Matt and Danielle Noyes, blends scientific precision with hyper-local attention to detail. The firm draws from high-resolution environmental data sources - enabling uniquely accurate and practical guidance for operational teams.

“We’re proud to support NH State Parks, and especially the incredible New Hampshire State Beach Patrol team,” said Matt Noyes, president of 1DegreeOutside. “The New Hampshire seacoast sees millions of visitors each year, which is why we feel this new forecasting tool is well suited to help the NH Beach Patrol achieve their goal of making the seacoast of New Hampshire one of the safest premier beaches to visit in the country. This partnership reflects our shared belief that smarter forecasting isn’t just about weather, it’s about people.”

The new rip current forecasting tools will be provided throughout the remainder of the beach season, after which the division will review incident data, alert accuracy, and Beach Patrol feedback.
