Federal Grant Money Available for Recreational Projects

New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation announces Grant Round 31 of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).The LWCF State and Local Assistance Program of the National Park Service (NPS) is intended to preserve and enhance opportunities for public outdoor recreation. Various levels of local government including cities, towns, counties, andschool districts are eligible to apply for assistance and sponsor projects.

Funds may be used for the development of facilities and/or acquisition of land for public outdoor recreation use. The program requires that sponsors commit to a minimum 50 percent share of total project costs, and maintain funded sites as public outdoor recreationareas in perpetuity. New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation administers the program within the state.

Potential applicants must submit an “Intent to Apply” form with the Divisionby 4 p.m. May 22, 2020. Forms, which provide program administrators with basic project information, are available on our LWCF webpage. The content of the submitted forms along with project site inspectionswill be evaluated for eligibility. Potential applicants whose project proposals aredetermined to be eligible will receive an invitation to apply including full applicationpackets and further instructions.

“The impact the Land and Water Conservation Fund has had in protecting our lands and our recreation and tourism economies is critical to the state,” said Philip Bryce, director NH State Division of Parks and Recreation.

Under Grant Round-Thirty, five municipal projects were selected totaling $442,548.00 in funding requests.Visit our website for current open projects totaling $3,503,534.00.Since 2010 NH has received,over $10 million dollars is grant funding.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund was permanently reauthorized as part of the bipartisan John D. Dingell, Jr.Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, signed into law on March 12, 2019.
