Bureau Reminds Riders Trails Aren’t Open Yet

11/15/2018

(Concord, NH)  Despite some early season snowfall and the potential for more, the NH Bureau of Trails is issuing a reminder to snowmobile riders that the majority of NH's snowmobile network does not open until mid-December.

"More than 80% of NH's public snowmobile trail network exists on private lands and most of those trail agreement do not take effect until December." says Trails Chief Chris Gamache

Early riding is available on the state-owned recreational rail trails, as long as there is snow cover. These trails are identified on the Bureau's website, https://www.nhstateparks.org/visit/recreational-rail-trails. Riders cannot operate on rail corridors that have rails still in place and are used by commercial rail companies.

The overall winter forecast is favorable for snowmobiling and other winter activities and the Bureau reminds riders that all machines must be registered before they can operate on the public trail network.
