Flume Gorge Opens for the Season
(Franconia Notch)Located in Franconia Notch State Park, the Flume is a natural gorge with spectacular waterfalls and historic covered bridges. Since being discovered in 1808 by Aunt Jess, the Flume Gorge has become one of New Hampshire’s most beautiful natural attractions. This magnificent gorge extends 800 feet with walls that rise to a height from 70 feet to 90 feet high and only 12 to 20 feet apart.
The Flume Gorge & Gilman Visitor’s Center will open daily from 9am to 5pm starting Thursday, May 12th . Visitors will find walking trails, boardwalks, and interpretive displays, as well as the Visitor’s Center gift shop, cafeteria, and free introductory movie about the history of Franconia Notch.
The Flume Gorge is one of many attractions located in Franconia Notch State Park. Visitor’s can plan a day in the park by visiting Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway which will open May 27th and Echo Lake Beach which will open June 17th. The Basin and the new Old Man of the Mountain Plaza are open year-round for viewing. Lafayette Place Campground will open on May 20th and is a great hub for hikers wanting to hike the Kinsman and Franconia Ranges.
