Northern Rover Programs

The 2017 Discover the Power of Parks program year has begun! Interpretive ranger, Anastasia Slough has planned informative and fun programs for you to take advantage of while visiting some of our Northern State Parks. Parks include Crawford Notch State Park, Echo Lake State Park, Ellacoya State Park, and Moose Brook State Parks. All programs are free with paid park admission. No pre-registration is required.

Crawford Notch Program Descriptions

Local Legends
Join Ranger Anastasia for some local legends and a few far away tales. Bring your creativity, we will be telling our own story as well! Meet at the Dry River Campground information booth.

Night Hike in the Notch
Who knew you could still have fun after dark! Join Ranger Anastasia for some lesser known night activities. Test your eyesight, make lightning, and more!

Meet Trapper Charles
Travel back in time with ‘Dogface Charles’ to explore the history of the fur-trade in New England. Trapper camp will be set on the front porch of the Willey House.

Smart Phone Photography
Take only pictures, leave only footprints…In this basic composition course we will explore photography techniques that can be utilized to capture the perfect memory! Bring a smartphone and let’s get snapping! Meet at the duck pond.

Painting the Notch
Express yourself! Join Ranger Anastasia at the duck pond for a guided art class. Afterwards, stick around and create a personal masterpiece! Paper is provided and there will be plenty of art supplies to choose from. Feel free to bring your own!

Echo Lake Program Descriptions

Beach Yoga for Beginners
Are you an early bird? Do you want to awaken your mind and develop a deeper connection with your surroundings? If you said yes to any of the previous questions, Beginner Beach yoga is for you! Start your morning right with Ranger Anastasia. (BYO yoga mat/towel or enjoy the sand!)

Toads, Frogs, & Polliwogs
Do you love critters big and small? Come along with Ranger Anastasia to get an up-close look at the life in Echo Lake. Pond nets provided! Meet me on the beach!

Ranger for a Day

Test your ranger skills with a real-live Park Ranger, Anastasia! Use your 5-senses to help fill sensory boxes! Challenge yourself to learn 5 trees in 5-minutes! These and other activities will be offered at the beach.

Meet the Forest
Get up-close and personal with the forest surrounding Echo Lake. Learn the story of New Hampshire’s forested lands while hiking around Echo Lake and stopping for activities along the way!

Wild Edibles
Forage through the forest surrounding Echo Lake with Ranger Anastasia! We will be sure to find blueberries as well as some lesser known treats the forest has to offer!

Ellacoya Program Descriptions

Local Legends
Join Ranger Anastasia for some local legends around the campfire. Bring some creativity, we will be creating our own story as well! (S’mores provided) Meet at the campfire ring near the shore in the campground area.

Beach Yoga for Beginners (Campers Only)

Campers! Cross the bridge to the beach area by foot to start your day with Ranger Anastasia before the beach opens to the public. (BYO yoga mat/towel or enjoy the sand!)

Meet Trapper Charles
Travel back in time with ‘Dogface Charles’ to explore the history of the fur-trade in New England. Trapper camp will be set up in the closed playground to the right of the beach store.

Bigfoots Backyard
Playing and camping in nature can be a blast. What happens when we don’t respect Bigfoots Backyard? Use tips from Bigfoot and your detective skills to investigate an abandoned campsite on Ellacoya Beach! Receive a Prize upon successful completion of Bigfoots Leave No Trace Challenge.

Get up-close and personal with the forest surrounding the Ellacoya Beach area. Learn the story of New Hampshire’s forested lands while hiking around and stopping for activities along the way!

Moose Brook Program Descriptions

Stargazing
Stars connect us to the stories of past cultures. Together we will identify some common constellations and explore some of the stories behind them. Join Ranger Anastasia for her Constellation hunt in the field behind the bathrooms!

Critter Hunt
Do you love critters big and small? Come along with Ranger Anastasia find out what’s really living around Moose Brook State Park. Pond nets and insect nets provided! Meet me at the fishing pond!

Remnants of the Past

Sharpen your observation skills on this hike around Moose Brook State Park. We will be hunting for remnants of the Civilian Conservation Corps presence. The CCC had a huge impact on the development of Moose Brook State Park in the 1930’s. Meet Ranger Anastasia at the fishing pond to learn more!
