Icon Legend

Rhododendron State Park is named after the 16-acre grove of Rhododendron Maximum, which is the focal point of the park. A 0.6 mile-long universally accessible trail encircles the grove allowing visitors to observe, close up, the fragrant clusters of pink blossoms as they burst into bloom in mid-July.

A wildflower trail, maintained by the Fitzwilliam Garden Club, winds through the forest adjacent to the grove. From early spring to the first frost, wildflowers bloom throughout the 2,723-acre park. The last blooms in the fall are complemented by the forest's brilliant foliage. Visitors exploring the trails are often serenaded by song birds which live in the grove.

The rhododendron grove, which is the largest in northern New England, was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1982.

Bloom Report

July 31, 2011 - As expected, most of the rhododendron blooms are finished for the season. There are a few late flowers here and there that have just opened up and will probably last a week or so, but approximately 98% of the blooms are gone for this year. If you missed it, try again next year around the middle of July. Check this website for updates as the season approaches. Rhododendron State Park is always a beautiful place to visit no matter the season or the stage of the blooms. It is always worth the trip.the "Rosebay(rhododendron)" flowers are currently in full bloom at Rhododendron State Park. They won't last too long in the hot weather we are feeling, so now is the time to visit if you want to see the most flowers out all at once. By the weekend of July 23, a good number of flowers will have dropped to the ground, but there will be a few late blooms perhaps lasting into the end of July as expected.

When you make plans to visit Rhododrendon State Park, no matter what you are looking for, remember to bring bug spray.
