Recreational Trails Program

2017 Recreational Trails Program Grant Applications Now Available
Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant applications are now available for Fiscal Year 2018. Grant money is anticipated to be available for the summer 2018 construction season. The RTP is a competitive grant program that offers funding for quality public trail projects throughout New Hampshire.

Limited grants are available for motorized, non-motorized and diversified trails. Eligible projects include maintenance and restoration of existing trails, purchase and lease of trail maintenance equipment, construction of new trails, development and rehabilitation of trailside and trailhead facilities and trail linkages. Applicants may be non-profit organizations, private groups or government entities. Applications are due Friday, June 23, 2017.

Recreational Trails Program Application   (Note: Late applications will not be accepted. These applications are for the 2018 construction season.)

Three public workshops will be held to assist organizations in applying for this grant program. The Bureau highly recommends potential bidders to attend the workshops, as there are changes to the program and rules. The dates are as follows:
  • Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 1pm -3pm and 6-8pm
    Department of Resources and Economic Development, 172 Pembroke Rd., Concord, NH 03301
  • Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 6-8 pm
    Department of Resources and Economic Development Office, 629 B Main St, Lancaster, NH 03584.
The Recreational Trail Program is funded through federal gas tax dollars on fuel purchases made for off-highway recreational vehicles and snowmobiles. The Federal Highway Administration appropriates the funds to states. The program in New Hampshire is administered by the Bureau of Trails.
